The Colourful Soul of the Costa del Sol

The birthplace of Picasso is as colourful as an artist’s palette, from the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea to the golden sun, which gives 300 days of sunshine per year. When the sun sets, the vibrant nightlife awakens and you’ll find your place amongst the youthful square of the old centre, the trendy bars of La Malagueta or on one of the terraces of Pedregalejo.

There’'s also rich history underneath the sun and fun. Alcazaba is a Moorish castle from the 11th century and just next to it are the remnants of a Roman Theatre. The white stone tower of the Malaga Cathedral rises up in the heart of the city centre, and offers an interesting respite from sun bathing on the magnificent and popular beaches.

A more modern history can be appreciated by visiting the birthplace of Picasso and a museum full of exhibitions by Malaga’s most famous resident. A more relaxed Spanish city than Madrid and Barcelona, Malaga is still the gateway to the Costa del Sol and the busy Malaga Airport is only 10 km from the centre of town.

From budget hostels to 5-star luxury hotels, with Booking.com you’re sure to find the perfect accommodation for your sunny holiday.

I loved the history and culture especially the castle (great views) and Roman Amphitheatre. The shops were great to look round and had a snack in the market. We also enjoyed the beach and had a quick swim.

Really impressed with Malaga. So much to see.

Really impressed with Malaga. So much to see. Easy to get about. Plenty of sightseeing tours. Cafes and restaurants were great and so cheap. Malaga city centre is so impressive and clean with magnificent tree lined avenues, fountains and churches. Cruise liners and super yachts were berthed in the harbour. Restaurants and shopping in this area was lovely.

Must visit is Alcabaza, Castle Gibralfaro the market, city center, bull arena and botanical garden. For swimming and night life I recommend to go to Torremolinos. Dont forget to go also cities nearby like Ronda, Nerja and so on.

    Vibrant, beautiful and friendly.

Vibrant, beautiful and friendly. From late night, balmy walks to some of the best vegetarian food we’ve had. So much to do that we couldn’t fit it all in :) Only a short jump on a train from Malaga airport; most of our exploring of the city was done on foot. A revisit is definitely in planning. Thank you, Malaga!

We only stayed there for one night before flying home. It was lively and pleasant - travelling with two wheelchair users we found it to be very accessible and easy to navigate with everything within walking distance.

Malaga is a great city to explore with the added loveliness of the beach, the port, the botanical gardens and the historic theatre & castle. The old part of the town is awesome with the small streets, museums, cathedral and little churches. Lots of tasty menus too if you're the adventurous type & like to use your language skills. We took a coach to Gibraltar and would have ventured to Granada and other nearby places had we been there longer.

Excellent location when returning to Málaga from Cordoba by train. Easy walk into the old town and the marina. Then when heading to the airport we had the option of both the train and easily available taxis for our early departure. The air conditioning/ heating in the room was the best I have ever encountered in a hotel. Very easy to regulate - and I could reach it from bed and cool things down when I awoke hot in the middle of the night without turning the light on.

The location is excellent for walking around Malaga city - right beside the old town, lovely part of town, easy access to the beach and port, bars and restaurants within minutes of walking from the Hotel. The roof top area in the Hotel was a lovely place to relax in the afternoon - but get up there before 16.00hrs!!! The best beds will be taken!!

Most enjoyable stay and easy to get to by bus from Malaga airport. Close to the old town Malaga with easy walking distance for shops and restaurants plus the beach, restaurants and marina. Ricardo the proprietor was most helpful for anything you needed and happy for any advice on where to go to dine or visit.

Lovely quiet boutique hotel in the old town. Just 3mins walk to the main square yet not too busy a location. Room and bathroom were great.
