I knew nothing of Carlisle prior to my visit and we didn't have long to look round but my main feeling was to wonder why nobody's mentioned how lovely it is. It has some stunning historical buildings to see and the city had a nice vibe. It's also really conveniently located for the Lake District and has rail links directly to it. The hotel also does evening meals, which we took advantage of, and this was very good. Staff are warm and friendly, the breakfast quality is excellent, rooms are clean and comfortable.
