Windermere town centre is small but has plenty of cafes and restaurants to meet all food lovers types. There are a good selection of shops for gifts etc. and all are within a few hundred yards and not too far from the railway station or buses to travel to other parts of the lakes. It is also a 10 to 15 minute walk to Bowness (downhill) which is also the place to hop on to the lake boats or alternative dining or shopping and the Beatrix Potter experience. We had our honeymoon in Windermere many years ago, so revisiting places. Windermere is a beautiful location with plenty to do for all the family. Easy to get around with buses to the Lakes if no car. The area is stunningly beautiful and the people are so friendly and chatty. It was a real pleasure to be there. I'd recommend a day tour just so you see everything. The hotel was in a good location within walking distance to the town of Windemere and Bowness-on-Windermere which had a lot more to offer than the actual town of Windermere. A lovely place to visit. Lots of good local shops, cafes and restaurants that were nearby. Buses 599 open top available to get to other places and train station with good connections if you don't want to drive. We enjoyed visiting Ambleside, Bowness, Coniston and Grasmere. We took a boat out on Windermere from Low Woods, the car ferry to Hawkeshead and the boat trip on Lake Coniston. A walk down to the lake directly from Windermere via Birthwaite Road leads you to two small jetties where people were swimming, paddle boarding and people watching. In Windermere, Home Ground Cafe is a great place for breakfast but be prepared to queue. Tillys bar did a good fish and chips. Cafe Italia for pizza etc.Guest review byJulieUnited Kingdom

Very nice and comfortable, although quite near a road junction so some noise, but not too bad. The Annex has some more parking spaces if main Hotel car park is full. Hotel location is good, with a nice view. Food is quite good, we ate at Hotel restaurant every night as it was reasonably priced. The hotel pool is nice, we swam there a couple of times.
