We were only there for an overnight layover while heading...
We were only there for an overnight layover while heading home. We got in after 8 pm but had an awesome evening exploring what we could in such a short amount of time. The hotel was in a great location for us to walk to Trevi Fountain and the Colluseum. We had a wonderful night walking the streets and also had dinner at the restaurant right next door. It's extremely busy with lots of rude tourists watching Rome through their cameras. Rome itself is dirty, the streets needed cleaning with pavements in a rough condition. The food was expensive and nothing exciting mainly pizzas and pasta ( surprisingly). Book tickets for the Colosseum well in advance - before you travel. I thought the prices were very reasonable. Watch out for 'ticket type touts' around the area. The Hop On Hop Off buses are really good and you get to see a lot of the city. The Hop On Hop Off river boats probably not as good but if just want a little trip on the water to take a load off after walking around - it's pleasant on a nice day. Gregory's Jazz Club near the Spanish Steps is a rare find - great music, staff and drinks. There is a charge to listen to the live jazz but worth it. Most bars and restaurants charge around 12 euros for a glass of wine. There is also a cover charge (varies) and often a service charge - but tips are not included. Similar to Just Eat in the UK! Be prepared but don't let it deter you - to soak up the atmosphere and ambience around the piazza's is priceless. Rome is magnificent, so much to see. But … it is wall to wall tourists. Book everything in advance before you leave home as it sells out. Queues are very long even with tickets. Try Trevi Fountain around 7:30 otherwise crazy!Guest review byBethAustralia
