FAQs about hotels in San Francisco

An Icon of Liberalism

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.

Surrounded on 3 sides by water, it is spread over steep hills that make for great photo opportunities. None better than the zig-zag Lombard Street seen in many a film. Other movie stars are the streetcars plying the hill climbs – a little touristy, but still worth trying.

In the middle of the bay is Alcatraz island, famed for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t fancy going inside, the views towards the bridge and city are unparalleled.

Nowhere in San Francisco is life more laidback than on the Pacific beaches. Hire a bike and head out there via the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. The clam chowder served in (yes, actually in!) bread is a delight. Chinatown also has a great selection of good value restaurants.

As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want to stay in apartments along those lines, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something to suit. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here.

Beautiful city and with lots to see and do.

Beautiful city and with lots to see and do. At least, you should stay 4 days and organize what you will do every day. Get a clipper card to move around the city with public transportation, which is organized and clean. My favorite places: Golden Gate Bridge, The Alcatraz tour, The cable car ride, The painted Ladies, Chinatown, The Golden Gate Park, Building Ferry Pier.

Make sure you bring warm clothes even in the summer as it gets really chilly. Ate at Fog Harbor. Food was really good. Went to Oracle Park. Always a good time at the ball park. Walked through the Warf. Always good to take a Cable Car ride. Go to Alcatraz is a must. Have an Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista.

Our 2nd time here, nice to stay in a different part of the city. Tried the train, tram and trolley cars as I like to ride public transport with the locals. Sadly noticed a lot more mentally affected people this time not that they bothered me, I never felt unsafe here and would definitely come again. Pretty easy to get around and we were lucky to have great weather, late August, early September.

    What a pleasant stay!

What a pleasant stay! This city is so easy to get around with the BART and MUNI systems. People are so friendly all over. Yes the Tenderloin is not the best, but we never did feel unsafe whatsoever - even in the roughest areas. Very touristy. But this is also what makes you feel a bit safer. Even asking police for directions was enjoyable - they're so friendly and funny!

This is an interesting and diverse city, big enough to offer a wide range of experiences, but not overwhelmingly large (like LA). Plenty of transport options (the ‘cable cars’ are a must try) and the BART (Bay Area Transit), are available, along with an abundance of taxi’s (including driverless cars). Alcatraz is a first class experience. We had been during the day a few years ago, but this time we took the night tour which was extremely atmospheric. Eating out can be expensive, but the variety of cuisine reflects the diversity of the city. We were not short of options at any point.

This hotel is a gem. We loved the great attention given to details: soft linen, comfortable beds, materials used, Smeg fridge in the rooms, perfect cleanliness, delicious pastries for breakfast,... Add to that that the staff is super friendly and helpful, that there is large chilling room and that the location is very very close to Union Square. Honestly, I don't think that there are two places like this in San Francisco: Value for money is impossible to be beaten.

The location of this property was ideal for exploring Union Square and China Town area. Plus easy reach to transport, in fact the trolley was only steps away. High on my priority list for a holiday is a comfy bed and this was the best. The staff are friendly (even gave my daughter chocolates for her birthday). We found the tea/coffee and breakfast pastries a real bonus. Would absolutely recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Perfect location just in Union Square, the busiest square in San Francisco with all the tour stops within a minute walk. The hotel is beautifully art nouveau decorated. I simply loved it.
