Our three-night stay at Matraville Homestay was a very welcome change-of-pace after jungle treks and volcano hikes in Bukit Lawang and Berestagi. Our unit was VERY large (it would have easily suited a family of four) and well-appointed with a TV, fridge, sink and kettle for use. It was also spread over two levels, with the downstairs serving as the entrance/living room area/kitchenette, and the bedroom and bathroom/separate shower area upstairs. BONUS(ES): the unit entrance featured a little patio with a table and chair where you could have an early-morning coffee or tea while facing the sunrise; the upstairs level also provided a small balcony area to take in the morning sun or evening dusk. While the room we chose was across the street from the water (a 90-second walk at most, down a couple of shallow flights of steps, and therefore didn’t provide a direct waterfront view), there are two rooms available in another portion of the property that face the water and are just steps from it. Our excellent Host, Dimmer, picked us up from the Tuk Tuk ferry landing (and can also drop you off when you depart) and will provide you with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable, including tips on places to eat or have coffee nearby and suggestions for what to do/see on Samosir Island. He will also provide scooters for daily/multi-day use for very reasonable rates.

The location is beautiful, right on the shore of the lake with a lovely view. There's an on-site cafe that serves good breakfasts, and the coffee is great too. Our room was clean and comfortable. They also offer scooter rentals and a laundry service, which is very convenient. The staff was excellent, and I want to give a special mention to Mr. Rahman, who was incredibly kind. Highly recommended!

Asim Paris Guesthouse & jungle trekking se găsește în Bukit Lawang și oferă cazare de 3 stele, o grădină, o zonă de plajă privată și o terasă. The friendliest staff/host I've ever had. Yes, the location is far from the village, and it's scary and dangerous to walk back to the guesthouse alone at night. But don't hesitate to ask the host for a ride, they are always willing to help! Very good place to just relax and chill out.

Sumatra Orangutan Discovery Villa se găsește în Bukit Lawang, într-o clădire ce datează din 2020, și are o grădină și camere cu WiFi gratuit. Această pensiune oferă o terasă și vedere la munte. There was nothing we didn’t like. Comfortable beds, beautifully decorated room, amazing tropical garden, delicious food in the restaurant, the well organised and executed overnight tour into the jungle (yes, we were lucky to see orangutans in the wild) But it is the people working at the Orangutan discovery villa that made our stay unforgettable - highly hospitable, accommodating, genuine in every way. If we are ever to go back to Bukit Lawang it will be the this place.

Gino's Place - Guest House & Jungle Trekking se află în Bukit Lawang și include o grădină și un restaurant. Lovely and quiet with beautiful views of the jungle and and rice fields. We had a really comfortable 2 nights before and after our jungle trek which was super easy to organise prior to arrival, along with transfers to and from the airport. The staff were all super friendly and welcoming. We ate here for breakfast and dinner and the food was really tasty and very good value for money.

SeaGate Bungalows se află în Sabang și include o grădină, o zonă de plajă privată, o terasă, și WiFi gratuit în întreaga proprietate. Best place we’ve ever stayed, cannot recommend it highly enough! The beach 5 meters from the room has some of the best snorkeling we have ever tried. We even saw a sea turtle. Borja is extremely attentive and helpful, and will try to help you regardless of what you need. We stayed in both a deluxe room and later a bungalow. Both are amazing but the bungalow has a bit more privacy. It takes roughly 15 minutes by scooter to get to Gapang Beach where there are diving and freediving schools.

Sahnan Guest House se găsește în Bukit Lawang și oferă o grădină și o terasă, precum și un restaurant. We highly recommend the place ! Andri was very kind and helpful. He arranged transportation to/from Bukit Lawang. He also arranged a day trip to the jungle with our guide Jhony whom we recommend as well! The place is by the river and absolutely lovely.

Sumatra Cheeky Monkeys se află în Bukit Lawang și are o grădină, un lounge comun, o terasă și un bar. The location is a perfect base for jungle trekking but the best thing is the incredible staff and the amazing food. I’m genuinely sad to leave and it feels like I’m leaving my home. Everyone works so hard to make it a fabulous experience. Special thanks to Ellie for the best food ever, Ade for his kindness and patience, Mr Wong for his his humour and care ❤️ hope to see you again

Kupu Kupu Garden Guest House & Cafe se află pe malul mării în Bukit Lawang și are o grădină și o terasă. Personalul proprietății poate organiza servicii de transport de la/la aeroport. Lovely staff, always willing to help. Thank you very much for such a pleasant stay especially Ariz and Risky. 100% recommended. Personal encantador, siempre dispuesto a ayudar. Muchas gracias por una estancia tan agradable especialmente Ariz y Risky. Recomendable 100%.

Batu Kapal Guest House & Jungle trekking se găsește în Bukit Lawang și are o grădină. Această pensiune oferă o terasă și vedere la râu. Staff is amazing, food is great and also the location which is deeper in the jungle. Only accessible by motorbike, but the staff is super flexible and take you up and down to the town whenever you want (not needed and not expected but we tipped them a bit every time). We saw so many orangutans with them! Even when taking the trip to the batcave, but I think we were lucky. Would definitely recommend Batu Kapal!
