On the West bank of the River Shannon, Shannonside House is set within large, private gardens. Guests can enjoy home cooking and free parking, and Athlone's centre is a 5-minute walk away. Mark and Linda have a beautiful home, which is a walking distance to the town area, Athlone Castle, and the lake nearby. The amenities were simple and well put together. The rooms are clean and immaculate. Huge parking space as well.

I was really surprised at how soundproof the room was given that there was a function on in the bar that night and I'm a light sleeper. The function ended at a reasonable hour but I heard very little noise while it was on. Tip: to avoid a cold shower check the hot water tap in the sink first. The room I was in may have been located furthest from water tanks so it took a little time for the heated water to reach the room. I would have gladly stayed another night but due to a mix up I couldn't, the owner very kindly arranged an alternative place for me to stay.
