Very unique experience, nice to say in a traditional room and we took part in the meditation and porridge breakfast sessions. We were the only people staying there so ended up being a private session. The vmchief monk ran the sessions and was happy to answer any questions we had. The temple was peaceful and calm a nice break away from the busy cities. The room was large with it's own sink and toilet but shared shower facilities.

We stayed here after hiking the Nakahechi route! Beautiful home stay with really lovely owners, thank you for your hospitality! Clean facilities and a common room kitchen space to utilise. Location is out of Kii Katsuura/Nachi. But you can catch bus, walk or hire the bikes from the information centre at the Kii Katsuura station!

The Temple Hotel is perhaps a bit of a misnomer. There are lots of temples in the area, which is a lovely traditional residential area, plenty small restaurants, and it's a short pleasant walk to Kumano Hayatama Taisha, one of the grand Kumano shrines. The guest accommodation, just two rooms, is in a rather drab road-facing building, but the rooms are huge, have a kitchenette and huge amounts of free alcohol included. The hotel is, in fact, run by the monks of the temple on the same compound, and the temple is lovely and free to visit, but the accommodation is modern. What's also good is that the bus stop for the Kumano Kodo sites is less than 100m from the hotel. I paid 51 Euro for one night, pretty okay given my relatively late booking, the size of the room and the amenities and tourist-friendly location. It can be a bit hard to find, as there are many temples in the area. The entrance is from the main road, and there is an okonomiyaki place right by the entrance. It is also good to inform the staff when you will be arriving, as the staff do work at the temple and there is no formal reception desk.

Situated just 2.9 km from Ojigahama Beach, AJITO Hostel & CafeBar provides accommodation in Shingu with access to free bikes, a bar, as well as full-day security.

We were blown away over how great Ajito Hostel was! We couldn’t believe it is a hostel. The quality was far above a good hotel! The place was so neat, beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable and with so many services like free coffee, local fruit, water and fresh bed every day! Everything seemed brand new. It was truly the best place we’ve stayed on our trip through Japan so far. We highly recommend staying here!

We had a lovely welcome even though it was a late check in, and he did very well with little English. Even though we were only staying one night, he made us feel very welcome and showed us all the property details. It was a short walk from the train station, with bikes available. The property itself is beautiful and we loved the traditional touches. He even left some Japanese snacks in the room for us. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you!!!!

Beautiful old-style guesthouse right next to Hayatama Taisha. The location is absolutely amazing. Hayatama Taisha is literally steps away from the front door. There are river views from the room and the tatami floor rooms are beautiful.

Beautiful property with traditional tatami flooring in the upstairs bedrooms. Kitchen is well stocked and the place has nice amenities like towels, extra blankets etc. Bikes are free to ride around the city which I used to get to the 3 main shines, couldnt ask for anything more! Host was super accomodating and allowed me to check in an hour early, would stay here again.
