We were supposed to stay for just one night but ended up staying 4! Okay, from the beginning. We had different accommodation in Hakuba, but we weren’t satisfied so we were looking for something else and found Dark Horse by chance. The moment we walked into the house, we were greeted with smiles and warmth. Andy, Rika, Momo and Hana create something truly special. We’ve stayed at hundreds of hotels and such, but this one will stay in our hearts for a long time. Everything is well thought out, you can see it’s taken care of down to the smallest detail, you can see it’s done properly and not just to be the cheapest. We felt so beautifully hosted. They also have an amazing sake collection to try, and the food is delicious too. Thank you again and we already miss it. I hope we’ll get the chance to meet again. PS. We loved every bit of our stay. Traditional Japanese tatami rooms with an amazing breakfast and dinner. Minutes walk to the slopes, restaurants, and bars. The family that ran the place was more than helpful in every way from sending our gear with Yamato, making restaurant reservations, and so friendly. Had private onsen for guests only. Had it to myself most of the time. Breakfast and dinner was the best meal we had all 5 days we were there. Everywhere in town, you needed reservations. If you're looking for a traditional stay close to the slopes, this is the place for you. If you are looking for a party or modern beds, this isn't the place for you, but highly recommend immersing yourself in the traditions. Would definitely come back!!

Just 10 minutes from JR Hakuba Train Station on the free shuttle(14:30-21:00), Hakuba Skala Inn features a cosy lounge with a library, a bar and a wood-burning stove. The pension is run by a family and you can feel it. Very friendly and helpful service, spotless clean room, the best breakfast I have had in Japan, nice location by the woods, comfortable beds...everything is just perfect. I absolutely recommend.

Three of us stayed here for 5 days. We had the best time! The accommodation was extremely clean and comfortable with great facilities, including a storage area for all of our ski and snowboard gear. There’s also a bus station right down the street that takes you to Iwatake (which you can then transfer to another bus that takes you to every resort.) The best part were the owners — they were so kind and welcoming even though we did not speak Japanese. They cooked us breakfast and dinner and both were so delicious. We highly recommend and would definitely stay again! Thank you so much for the wonderful stay😁

The property is beautiful and comfortable. It is a separate private cabin that is attached to the outside of the hosts' home, with your own private entrance, bedroom, kitchen, shower+tub, and toilet . The location is very quiet and peaceful with nice views of the mountainside. You also get your own drying room with a separate heater, which is great for storing and drying ski gear each night. The location is perfect, it is a 1 minute walk away from a shuttle stop with free shuttles to Happo-One, Iwatake, Goryu, and 47. It is a 10-15 minute walk to central Echoland and restaurants. The hosts are great people. They are very kind and helpful. We were able to communicate easily through messaging and Google translate, and they were very responsive. They even offered to take us grocery shopping, got us seats at a good restaurant, and took us to the ski resort one morning. Their dog is cute too. They will make you feel welcome during your stay. We loved our stay and can't wait to come back!

Very good location, walk distance to Tsugaike ski resort. Shared kitchen to cook something easy for myself. And a big living room to rest. The only-one grocery store in town is around the corner.
