The house is a timber clad modern farmhouse. It is six years old and we built it ourselves after having established a free range chicken farm. It is an upside down house with a vaulted ceiling in the living room and the kitchen which look out onto our meadow. You can see some of Dartmoor on a clear day. The bedrooms are downstairs, with a walk out patio from the hall outside the B&B bedroom. The house is surrounded by 50 acreas of farm land, with ten acres of woods that are a delight to wander around and listen to the birds and meet the occasional red deer. The area around the house is level and there is a pond where you can sit and enjoy the view of the meadow and fields around.

We are originally dairy farmers but later Charles became a thatcher and I went to work in Exeter as a medical secretary. We have jointly restored several houses and our last big project was an old school house in Hatherleigh. The property had been devided into and left unlived in for seven years. We restored it to its former glory and ran a Bed and Breakfast there for several years. We moved to the farm and established a free range egg business supplying local shops and pubs in the area. Charles trained as a surveyor and when not busy with grandchildren Anna goes out on surveys and helps Charles. Running a bed and breakfast is a nice way to meet people and introduce them to this beautiful part of Devon. Having lived in the area for nearly our whole lives we have plenty of information about places to visit.

The area is rural. The road from the A30 is one track and you can often meet another car, but there are a few wide parts. There are no immediate neighbours. We are a short drive from the villages of South Zeal and South Tawton and just a ten minute drive from the A30 at Whiddon Down. There is a public footpath from the house, so you can walk to either of these places. A short drive to South Zeal, where there is a village car park, allows you immediate access to Dartmoor. Belstone is again just a short drive, with a lovely pub and the most stunning view of Dartmoor. Not to be missed. Okehampton now has a train station, as well as three supermarkets. A museum and castle. A train ride takes you into Exeter, or you can take a bus from Whiddon Down. Tourist attractions nearby are Drogo Castle, Stone Lane Gardens, Chagford, Belstone, Exeter, Lydford Gorge and Tavistock. This is not a comprehensive list.
