Our 3 bedroom, self-catering, stone built semi-detached cottage is located on a site with other cottages next to the Highland Wildlife Park, 4 miles north of Kingussie in the Cairngorms National Park. We are on a raised site with views across the River Spey to the Inshriach forest, Glen Feshie and the mountains beyond. We generally enjoy a breeze and this helps keep the midges away! There are shared grounds for the holiday cottages with mature trees, grassy areas, picnic benches and a BBQ shelter. The location next to the Highland Wildlife Park, with a shared access road, makes us easy to find. Other things you need to know: The cottage is heated with electric heaters throughout. We will have these on for your arrival in cold months. Hot water bottles are supplied. The kitchen floor is tiled and the living room floor is parquet flooring so having a pair of slippers to wear indoors is recommended for cold months. There is an electric fire in the lounge that can boost the heating of the house. The two bedrooms have dressing rooms attached There is one step into the shower room. There is so much for everyone to do in the surrounding area. We're sure you'll have a wonderful time staying at Islay cottage! We allow short lets of a minimum of 3 nights throughout the year, except for school holidays during which time we have weekly, Saturday-Saturday bookings. Christmas and New Year are also weekly bookings. Towels and bed-linen are provided. There is an entrance porch with space to store waterproofs and boots. Please note that we do not allow pets/dogs. Tanya loves wild swimming and we both love mountain biking, climbing, hiking, skiing, and wild camping. The Cairngorms offers all of these. We are grandparents and now learning all the fun things that we can do with children in the area.

There is lots to do in the area but a car is really useful to get the most out of your visit. We are right next to the Highland Wildlife Park which is a great day out. There are tigers, wildcats, deer, elk, camels, bison, polar bears, owls, snow leopards, red pandas, lynx, wild horses and red squirrels and they are all on our doorstep. Some of our favourite walks are just across the valley in Glen Feshie with walks through the forestry to the Uath Lochans or down the River Feshie. We are close to Loch an Eilein and Rotheimurchas estate walks and cycle routes. Loch Insh and its fantastic watersports are 3 miles away as is their restaurant overlooking the Loch. At Loch Insh you can fish, swim, canoe, kayak, sail, windsurf, climb, ski, hire bikes and enjoy their adventure park and trails. In the area there are masses of other outdoor activities: wildlife spotting, quad biking, visiting historical landmarks, karting track, geocaching, a high ropes course, and clay pigeon shooting. Rothiemurchus offer numerous of these activities. The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre makes for a good day out with youngsters. Of course there are golf courses too, Aviemore and Kinguisse are the closest golf clubs. After a day on the hill there are loads of family friendly cafes and restaurants to enjoy. For rainy days there is Landmark Forest Park, Highland Folk Museum, Strathspey Steam Railway and the Fun House at Coylumbridge. We also have a cupboard in the lounge of games and a varied DVD selection. Please note the Wi-Fi average speed varies around 10Mbps. The rural setting of Islay Cottage means that this is lower than most guests may prefer. Please plan accordingly. We like to get away from it all so this does not worry us.
