This lodge feels solid, not least thanks to the thick stone walls that have stood strong against Highland weather for over 100 years. Effort has gone into preserving as many original features as possible, while the décor, furnishings – and the addition of a few carefully placed skylights – has transformed this incredible building into a bright, cosy home for modern living.

This cottage is right in the middle of Alvie Estate, and staying here means you benefit from all that comes along with that. Firstly, you’re far from any roads, making it a relaxing place to bring pets and children. Then there’s the natural surroundings: fields filled with newly born lambs and calves in spring, woodlands that glow orange and red in autumn, a loch for summer swims. To the rear are rocky hills ready to be explored, while the snow-topped Cairngorms tempt you from across the strath.
