Beautifully restored former village Blacksmiths. Cosy and comfortable in a tranquil location, with superb views over surrounding countryside and mountains beyond. This well equipped cottage features several quirky features including a large inglenook fireplace with log burner and complementary basket of logs and kindling. The hosts and owners have given great attention to the detail and the cottage is truly an 'escape from the ordinary'. Ideal for families, walkers, horse/mountain bike riders and couples just wanting a romantic getaway. Parking for 2-3 cars and secure storage for outdoor equipment. The Old Smithy comfortably sleeps 4 and 1 infant in two bedrooms. The balcony bedroom has a double bed and overlooks the pretty cottage garden, and downstairs en-suite bedroom which can be made up as a 'king' or 'twin', depending on guest's requirements. There is also a further good sized shower room and both showers have excellent water pressure. Meet and greet and additional extras including an extra set of keys, z bed, travel cot, high chair, outside lights on arrival, shower stool, electric can opener etc all available on request via the hosts own booking form which is emailed to guests when a booking is confirmed.
We are Carrie & Mark, dedicated hosts & owners of The Old Smithy. We purchased this delightful former working Blacksmiths in February 2023 and at the time, the cottage was in a state of collapse. To save this historic and important building, work began almost immediately and were extensive as we wanted to preserve as many of the original features as possible but with all the modern amenities and comfort expected by our guests. We encountered many challenges and many an hour was spent in antique shops and online websites sourcing suitable furnishings and artifacts in keeping with the age and history of the cottage. We are proud of our achievements and our attention to detail which is noticed and appreciated by our guests who remain 'wowed' by the cottage's charm. As hosts we very much look forward to welcoming you and your four legged friends to The Old Smithy.
Peaceful and tranquil. Located on the Shropshire/Powys border close to Offa's Dyke and the Montgomery Canal, it is situated within easy reach of Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Welshpool.
