Past, present and future convey at Il Querceto. A matrilineal family, wherein mother and daughter share family values such as love and respect for land, animals and all beings. These values were passed by nonna Maria to Nancy. From Nancy to Francesca, they translated into the will to overcome monotony and common sense.

IL QUERCETO Wild and untouched South Italy. Il Querceto, in Basilicata, is a 38 hectares farm, situated on a hill at the foot of an oak forest. Protected to the north by a high mountain: the Volturino, which comes right down to the stone houses. There, the oak forest gives space to an olive grove, a vineyard, an apple orchard and fields of wheat and corn. To the south is the Agri valley, while to the east is the medieval village of Marsicovetere. You will find here a wild pasture, an underground spring and a magic circle with a large oak tree in the centre. The organic farm is ICEA certified and in recent years it has also been using biodynamic methods. We have horses and poultry and cultivate forage crops in rotation to help the soil fertility. The farm was also called La terra di Nancy and has been running for 30 years to promote the development of eco-friendly initiatives and human development. On this theme we also organise seminars and workshops aimed at achieving well being. We foster the development of organic and biodynamic farming, the maintenance of biodiversity and promote research and testing of energy saving building techniques.

The Sanctuaries of nature ! The mountains of the Appennino Lucano, covered by snow throughout Spring, fall into the blu waters of the Policastro gulf. The top of the Volturino Mountain, the sacred mountain of Viggiano, the Arioso and Alpi, the Sirino massif, Mount Raparo and Raparello, and the outstanding mountain of Pollino surround beautiful valleys cut by rivers that were sailed during ancient times. The landscape, still and authentic, the infinite sunsets, the oak and beech woods, the beautiful Loricato pine (Pinus heldreichii) last sentinel of the European continent, and the clear waters of the springs, possess an unexpected charme. Mount Volturino is a majestic a wilde mountain of three peaks and a creek make of limestone and flint. The chance to go hicking and climing, on the Roccia del Brigante, make of this area a top destination. During Winter you could go hicking with snowshoes, while in Spring and Summer the landscape is rich of incredible surprises.
