Pomarance is situated on a hilly area 375 meters s.l.m. Upper Val di Cecina 80 km from Pisa, Florence and Siena. Its territory includes several villages including Larderello, Montecerboli, Lustignano, Libbiano, Micciano, Montegemoli, San Dalmazio and Serrazzano. Pomarance was once the castle on the left bank of the river Cecina and called Ripamarance. Testimonials Etruscan, Roman and medieval show a continuity of life on its territory as is witnessed by the exhibition of archaeological finds preserved in the Museum “Warriors and Craftsmen” Palazzo Ricci. Larderello is the most important town of the area for the particularity of Soffioni Boraciferi and “Geothermal Energy” which has its recent history since the nineteenth with the family De Larderei who gave his name to the village of Larderello factory and began the exploitation of warm waters from which it was extracted boric acid and borax used in various industrial fields. Today the heads, which are picked in the ground similar to oil drilling, are used to produce electricity in modern power stations “geothermal”.
