Our tiny house, designed and built by Raglan Tiny Homes, is nestled in a mature stand of native bush with shady paths beneath tall trees, leading to a stony-bottomed stream and small waterfall. Birdlife is prolific. Quiet spots to rest, contemplate, read or draw are numerous. It’s also a beautiful place for practising photography. The recycled tawa flooring, rewarewa bench tops, and plywood cabinetry give a natural warmth to the indoor space. This natural environment connects well with the technology: wifi, an induction hob, an electric oven, toaster, and fridge freezer, double glazing, sustainable composting loo, and numerous USB charging ports. The cosy indoor space opens onto a 3 metre wide full length covered deck, with trifold kitchen windows macrocarpa raw wood breakfast bar. Below the tiny house a short path - with a string of lights at night - leads to the no-hassles electrically heated hot tub in a ferny grotto. Behind the Hut are two extra seating areas. One is perfect for soaking up extra sunshine, or resting under the big native trees. The other spot is ideal for a quiet shady snooze (or smoke) under the cantilever umbrella. Parking is off-road and right next to the Hut. Being just 25 minutes from Hamilton and 20 minutes from Raglan you’ll have the perfect spot for quiet reflection, to catch up on your reading, or to use the Hut as a base to visit the vibrant surf beaches and bespoke restaurants and shops of the unique Raglan township.
We are Mike and Jan, a retired kiwi couple. Mike has always had a love of motorcycles, philosophy, music, and native trees. Jan now has time to make metal jewellery, paint pictures, and teach a little. We live down the drive from the Divvy Hut, in the black house, past the redwood trees. If you have any urgent queries you can call us. We won’t disturb you unless we have safety concerns. The property is 2.2 hectares (5 1/2 acres). It is a long, thin piece of land with no domestic animals. One boundary is the Otonga Stream and the other is the road. We are rewilding the area to the north of the property (we call the Redoubt) that was used as a platform and slash dump for past logging. That part is a wonderful work in progress for our retirement, along with this new tiny house rental which we hope will help with the costs of the rewilding project.
There are so many activities in this area that exploring can take you from the glow worm caves an hour to the south in Waitomo, to the internationally acclaimed Hamilton Gardens just 30 minutes east, or on a sunset cruise on Raglan Harbour, after walking the long black sand beaches and feasting on exotic food in the Raglan township. Bike hire is available in town, and the bike and walking trails are numerous and picturesque, as is the path down to Bridal Veil falls. So much to do! Perhaps you should take the special offer and stay with us for a week! The ‘divvy’ is not just the local lingo for the ‘deviation’ road that brings you to us. ‘Divvy’ also means ‘to share’. We hope you’ll find lots to enjoy when you come to share our wee slice of paradise.
