The Uba house, built in 1864 by Luisa's great-great-grandfather José Maria de Castro, is located in an area where, 150 years ago, grapes were grown to produce wine. The name Uba, stems from Uva, the Portuguese word for Grape, and has been spelled phonetically to mimic the local accent. Uba is a tribute to the family, the welcoming spirit of Porto and the wine that José Maria de Castro enjoyed sampling. The house underwent rehabilitation works in 2021. The priority was the preservation of the building and its charming features, whilst adding elements of comfort. This charming accommodation is located in the center of Porto and offers 3 suites with private bathroom and kitchenette, decorated with unique pieces from the family estate. The suites are located on the 1st and 2nd floor without elevator. Each suite pays homage to a Portuguese wine variety and each stay includes an offer of a wine for tasting. Uba is the permanent home of Luísa and Granny Lai who will make you feel at home. At Uba you can have a glimpse of the past, hear the creaking of the floor, feel the Porto tradition. We wish you a pleasant stay!
Luísa and Granny Lai live at Uba, both passionate about welcoming their guests. Luísa loves summer, traveling and enjoying a glass of wine at sunset in good company. Granny Lai loves cooking and makes the best coconut cake in the world! In the entrance hall of Uba is the portrait of the great-great-grandfather José Maria de Castro who built the house over 150 years ago. This portrait will be the starting point to introduce you to the history of the Uba house and family.
Carolina Michaelis and Lapa Metro Stations are a 5-minute walk away. Medieval Cedofeita Church is 200 meters away. The property is very close to the commercial area of ​​Cedofeita and the arts district of Miguel Bombarda. The location is fantastic for exploring the city on foot, with the city's main icons such as the Clérigos Tower, Lello Bookstore or Casa da Música all less than 20 minutes away on foot!
