This old world cottage was built in 1935, but modern comforts have been added to ensure a comfortable stay, with Wi-Fi, DSTV, electric blankets for the cold winter nights, and a large fire place in the lounge. We only have one cottage for guests, in order to ensure privacy, tranquility and an ambiance of seclusion in a well established garden. Enjoy the bird life, watch the samango monkeys walking on the electric wires and the peacefulness at the pond..., with no one else intruding your space. Refresh your mind and soul in an environment of peace and restfulness. The immediate area offers wonderful opportunities for the nature lover: Huge, seemingly endless ancient forests, cascades of waterfalls and gentle streams surround Hogsback. The weather: Cool summers and nippy winters. Come prepared for sudden changes of weather, as this village has it's head in the cloud many a mornings. A long walk through the forest is an ideal way to leave the cares of the world behind. Come and enjoy the rare Cape Parrot sounds, on a misty early morning or late afternoon. You are sure to see the spectacular Knysna Lourie ( Tpouraco) in flight, with its green upper parts and crimson wings.
Derek and Norma enjoy nature and the simple lifestyle that Hogsback offers. We aim to offer warm South African hospitality to all our guests. A special effort is made to personally greet and welcome guests, if possible. In winter Derek will have a fire going in the fireplace, as a welcome feature. The entire well established garden is open for the guests to enjoy, do bird watching & photography.
Hogsback is situated in the Amathole Mountain range, in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Tranquil, safe walks in the forests, bird watching, Park run every Saturday morning, mountain biking, hiking and trout fishing are some of the wonderful things to do here in our village. All health protocols are adhered to. The cottage gets deep-cleaned and sanitized before and after each group of guests. While the pandemic is raging, we do not allow bookings on the same days that guests leave the cottage. This may change once the health situation in this country has changed.
