Set in tranquil surroundings with large landscaped grounds and a picturesque garden terrace with mountain views, Tongariro Crossing Lodge offers uniquely spacious rooms with historic character. Tongariro Crossing Lodge was a great place to stay for our family (parents, 2 adult daughters). Our main purpose was to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing the next day. However, after consulting with Louis (owner) and looking at the predicted cloud cover, we opted to delay the hike an extra day Louis kindly suggested alternative shorter hikes/activities near by, which were very enjoyable. Louis had also reserved spots for us on the shuttle (to/from hike) but upon our arrival and discussion, we decided to drive ourselves to the carpark which ended up being a good idea since the day we hiked was extremely cloudy, not clearing up until about 1pm. Driving ourselves allowed us to be flexible and enjoy the stunning views for another hour instead of rushing back to make the 5:30pm shuttle. In addition to the room (ours was newly renovated), you could also pay for a continental breakfast and sack lunch which Louis brought to our room the night before the hike. Very convenient and yummy!! Lodge was also within walking distance of restaurants (two that we ate at had great views of mountains, sunset) and small store. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay - perfect for us :). Louis was also very responsive prior to our trip, answering my many questions.

We were there for ski trip. I loved Sandy's service by giving us all the info about the mountain and how to be prepared with passes and mapping it out for us to make sure we get the best experience which I appreciated soo much! The place itself was soo clean and felt like home. Beautiful lounge area and clean kitchen and nice open outdoor area to enjoy food with the best view in the area! Highly recommend and I'll definitely be staying here on my next trip :)

Plateau Lodge is located 15 minutes’ drive from UNESCO World Heritage listed Tongariro National Park, where guests can enjoy skiing, hiking, cycling and paddling activities. Nice lodge, spacious rooms. Very clean and nice atmosphere.

Situated in the beauty of National Park and hosting guests for over forty years, Howard’s Mountain Lodge presents an idyllic and serene base from which to take in the epic scenery of the central... Very comfortable private room with heating and clean sheets etc. The showers and toilets were clean. The main kitchen was beautiful with everything that you might need. Lovely lounge areas with a cozy feel to them.
