Incredible views right across the sea to the Coromandel Peninsula. The room is a very good size, with an extremely comfortable bed. This is a rural retreat, a long way from amenities and restaurants, and a farm stay, with chickens running around in the garden outside. So if you are looking for a very relaxing retreat, to unwind and soak up the views, and are happy to cook for yourself a bit (double halogen hob, microwave, full size fridge freezer) with friendly hosts then I can warmly recommend this lovely place. If you want shopping and restaurants on your doorstep, or are phobic of birds, then this wouldn't be the place for you. Oh, I nearly forgot to mention the hot tub! And the amazing expanse of the stars at night! I loved it!

The property was beautiful, well appointed, quite isolated and quiet. Our bedroom was well appointed, with good views onto the side garden. Towelling robes were sumptuous. We were not ‘en-suite’ but the bathroom was just outside our room and well equipped. We could sit in the living room or on the veranda. Ellie, the proprietor was wonderful. She’s had an active life and kept us entertained with stories. The breakfast was vast and tasty.

The room was beautifully and tastefully decorated in a modern minimalist style. The views on both sides were stunning and showed both the coast and the estuary. The landscaping around the property and the guest patio is beautiful and really enhanced the bungalow. The breakfast provisions were excellent quality and offered a wide range of Options. Loved the location, the views, hosts were so amazing. Cabin is so cute and perfect for over night stays. Private Guest bathroom is cute, but a walk up to the main house - didn’t bother us though - breath taking views.

We liked litererally everithing there. Perfect location, quiet area, lovely owners and beautyful weather :-). Apartment is just overwhelming. Ideal place to stay after leaving Auckland.

Set in Thames, Sunset Motel features barbecue facilities and a garden. All rooms feature a flat-screen TV with cable channels and a private bathroom.

The lovely manager of the property made everything relaxed and easy, including our unplanned late arrival around 2am. The property is a NZ motel, which means it is a type of unit with its own kitchen, and an informal personality that is quite unlike chain hotels. The location right on the beach with views across the water and up the coast feels like a place far away from city life. The beach is rocky, and not really suitable for swimming (unless perhaps with rubber aqua footwear) but good for strolling with a mug of coffee, fossicking for driftwood and shells. The unit was warm with the heating on and the excellent beds have electric blankets as well.
