Our room was very comfortable with a lot of intimacy right in front of a pond surrounded by green végétation. The owner, full of attention, had already reserved for us ( that we could cancel if we disagreed ) a table for dinner in another property. The meal and the environment were excellent. The Retreat at Groenfontein is located on a gravel road, 20 km north-east of Calitzdorp. Free WiFi access is available. Each accommodation will provide you with a private bathroom. Fantastic place that makes you feel that you have travelled back in time. The hosts are wonderful and the dinner concept (everyone eats at the same table) felt strange at the beginning, but turned out to be a lovely experience. The food was great, we were travelling with a picky toddler and he didn’t leave hungry. We’ve stayed for 2 nights and felt like it was too short.

Breakfast was excellent especially the baked goods (fresh pretzels). Dinner was good and the presentation was excellent. Good variety on the menu. Free drinks were welcomed. Night swimming was good.

The remote location of the cottage was also a huge plus. The sleeping quarters in the little house was cosy and the outside area where one would socialize, relax and eat is very well laid out. I was surprised at how perfectly cool the house was even the extreme heat of the day. The braai area is also shaded and cool relative to the exposed outside. We swam in the dam to cool off which was great, and ended the day marvelling at the stars that shone so bright. The perfect getaway!

This stay was exceptional. From the views of town to the service of the staff. We had an amazing stay. It was our grans birthday and they made such an effort to comfort her and make her feel special. The dinner they made was amazing. I will be dreaming of this for years. They had everything you needed, heated blankets, wine and spectacular views. My gran has mobility issues and they changed the rooms for us to be more suitable for her. They even checked up on her when we went out for the morning.
