Dubrovnik, even in shoulder season, felt too touristy.
Dubrovnik, even in shoulder season, felt too touristy. There was no opportunity for individual interaction with local people except for those in the tourism industry. Although all people we interacted with in various tourist establishment were professional, it felt very transactional. Apart from the Old Town and a couple of islands locally, there was not much to do - you can get it all over in two days! Plus travel to Dubrovnik from Zadar was painful - 9.5 hours by bus with 37 stops! It appears that FlixBus in Dalmatia is unlike in other areas - it is more like a local bus service (although we did get fantastic views of the coastline), the bus actually had standing passengers an some prebooked customers had to stand!Guest review byParitoshUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lovely and very interesting island with amazing beaches nearby, great biking opportunities, historic places to visit, wonderful restaurants, friendly people and amazing sites around every bend. We stayed in the old town, in a building built around 1400, and explored from there. We used Mlini for a night before flying out of Dubrovnik Airport. We started our Croatia holiday in Split, then did a Bike and Boat through the islands, ending up in Dubrovnik. Seeing how far Dubrovnik is from the airport, I sought closer accommodations, and it was a quick 10 minutes in the early morning when our driver picked us up at 5:40 a.m. After being there, for one day, I wish I could have spent several days there just relaxing!Guest review byBarbaraUnited States - 10.0

Lovely beaches. Plenty of restaurants, lovely area to walk around at night. Orebic is small enough to wander around. The port has a buzz about it with ferry information. Vela Luka is a hidden gem! It’s not overly touristic, which was exactly the appeal for us. The days are slow and relaxed, the food is delicious, and the people are lovely — it feels like a more authentic side of Croatia. It’s the perfect place to unwind, but at the same time there’s plenty to do. We went scuba diving, spent time at the beach, tried different restaurants, and enjoyed walking around. Honestly, we could have easily stayed at least two weeks just relaxing and exploring the different areas.
