WE loved the large , well mainatined, spacious rooms and especailly the breakfast arrangements with both indoor and outdoor dining areas .. ours favourite was the outside terrace.. and above all the diligent and attentive, Magdaelena, who prepared superb breakfasts each day and kept the whole place immacualtely clean and with such a warm and endearing character .. a real bonus for the appartment.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The lobby was beautifully decorated and had a lovely, relaxing vibe. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The bed was incredibly comfortable - I slept like a baby each night. The bathroom was very original and well-appointed. Overall, I can't say enough good things about our experience. The location was stunning, the amenities were fantastic, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable and relaxing stay. I will definitely be returning the next time I need a rejuvenating "trip into the past" getaway!

The hotel is a mediaeval building alongside the castle, with thick walls that has been sumptuously renovated. The room was the Giulietta e Romeo suite with a sitting/dining area as well as bedroom with a king size bed and a jacuzzi bath adjoining. It was marvellous. It is a long time since I've had the 'honeymoon' treatment. The staff are all marvellous and despite some speaking little English they could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The food was great and available from breakfast, lunch and dinner in the caffè and restaurant. The outdoor rooftop restaurant has spectacular views over the town and the mountains but whether it opens is weather dependent. If closed the inside restaurant is very good. There are plenty of other places to eat around and about as well but we ate here both days and weren't disappointed. The only thing wrong with the location is that the hotel does not feature in our updated Satnav so we had to ask a local lady, who kindly showed us the way through narrow cobbled pedestrian streets. Once we arrived a member of staff accompanied my husband to show him how to get to the hotel. I suggest you contact the hotel before you arrive to get proper directions from them if you are driving.

Sulmona ws a really nice, off the beaten path town to visit in Italy. It is the "home" of confetti, candied covered almonds, etc. We were able to tour museum factory where they have made these since the early 1700s. The old town itself is worth touring with ancient churches, many different street vendors, the farmer's market, etc. The town has some wonderful restaurants with authentic local cuisine.

The town is being revived and restored.

The town is being revived and restored. So I appreciated the historic aspect and efforts being made to bring in tourists. The road to the town was in great shape. With that said, there is really nothing to do there. We arrived on a night, I believe it was a Wednesday when all the restaurants but 2 were closed. The better restaurant was completely booked and we had to go with the only other choice open for our large group. The food was terrible and overpriced. Nothing else was open in town for even a drink!! There are many other places to go and see in Abruzzo, this would not be one of them. Maybe in a few years when the restoration is complete.

Nice starting point for exploring Gran Sasso.

Nice starting point for exploring Gran Sasso. There are only three restaurants in the town, all of them very good ( we tried all three) but considering slim options advanced booking is a must ; we also had a feeling that they cater for only one sitting per evening. Be sure to visit also Ristoro Muciante which s some 20 km away - a self catering facility where you buy their meet, cheese and side dishes as well as drinks and grill them by yourself ( during peak season be ready for a long waiting lines - we were there after the main ferragosto time but still waited for half an hour).

It's such a nice little place with nice bar and shops in the neighbourhood, beautiful churches and view on the mountains. It's a very strategic place because you can reach all the places to visit in less than an hour (the mountains of Gran Sasso and the Maiella, the sea, beautiful towns like Sulmona, L'Aquila, Chieti and all the little places in the mountains during hiking (Caramanico Terme, Passo San Leonardo, Roccacaramanico, Pescocostanzo, Palena, Casoli in the Maiella and Bussi, Capestrano, Bominaco and Rocca Calascio). And everywhere we found nice bars and exceptional good food in the local restaurants.

Celano is a wonderful old town in the mountains of Abruzzo, Italy. Touring the Piccolomini Castle is a must. The ancient castle, built in the 1300s, its museum & walking through the cobblestone streets is a look into a medieval era long gone. The people are friendly and you'll find many locals that speak some English. We, also, enjoyed hiking in the Celano Gorges. I'm planning on traveling to Celano again.

We expected luxury in a uniquely rustic environment and we weren’t disappointed. The view from our room window was stunning as was the view from the restaurant terrace. Candle light created a warm atmosphere. But the highlight was the quality of the service. A positive culture which was contagious amongst the guests. Thanks to all. We ate at ala Locanda each night and were very happy with the diversity and quality of the menu. We hiked to Rocca Calascio, drove to the observatory and walked, had lunch at the refuge on Campo Imperatore where we BBQed our meat bought from the refuge. On the way back to Rome we visiting L’Aquila, the sophisticated capital of the region.

This is essentially a review of Fonte Cerreto, as the hotel I stayed in is not in Assergi. Fonte Cerreto is very small, and is really just the base for exploring the Gran Sasso in the summer. It is probably also a good base for exploring the ski area in the winter. I ate in the hotel, but I think the trattoria a few hundred yards down the road would have provided better food.
