- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 233 reviewsIdeally located if you're planning on taking the Shinhotaka ropeway (as moving around the villages can be hard without a car as you have to follow the bus timetable), the place is set on giving you the best experience for a relaxing stay by the mountain. The room was superb, diner was great and the onsen is cherry on the cake. Relaxing in a hot spring outside in the cold with snowflakes running around while contemplating the snowy mountains around really makes a magical momentGuest review byLouisFrance
- From US$237.37 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.6Good - What previous guests thought, 5,344 reviewsFirst off - location. You couldn’t get a spot closer to the bus station if you tried! It’s super convenient. Second - the staff were amazingly helpful with our reservation and our queries regarding things to do and how to get to attractions in the area. The motel and our rooms were very clean, loved the complimentary toothbrushes, shaver and hair brushes.Guest review byNickNew Zealand
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 664 reviewsWe really enjoyed both dinner and breakfast and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The meals were extravagant and delicious. The baths were sometimes a bit hot for my young kids but the overall experience was still very enjoyable and they still developed an interest for onsens. It was our first stay at a Ryokan and we really enjoyed it.Guest review byZinquonCanada

We love the free coffee, beer, tofu and ice creams. Would totally visit again!Guest review byTa-ShanUnited States

Takayama has a mix of quaint old architecture and modern smalltown buildings. It is less crowded than Kyoto and great for exploring on foot. Takayama is also a great base for making day trips to places like the Shirakawa-go Unesco heritage site, Kamikochi nature park and Shinhotaka Ropeway. The Nohi Bus Centre next to Takayama Station is excellently run and provides efficient transport services to these attractions.Guest review bychengSingapore - 8.0

The 8km trail from Magome was great and there were buses going from the station to take you to the start of that short trail. On the return you could either walk to the train station a short walk from Tsumago or catch a bus back to Magome then another back to Nakatsugawa station. Lots of options and times. A beautiful and picturesque walk.Guest review byFrangapaniAustralia - 10.0
RELAXING QUIET GIFU!
RELAXING QUIET GIFU! We just wanted to visit other places in Japan. We have been to Japan a few times already. We like going to these kind of relaxing places. We went hiking, we walked everywhere since everything was walkable. We had so much local food and sake of course! ONSEN! Nature everywhere! We also met some of my aunt's family and friends. It felt like a home. We love everything in here. We could have stayed longer but will be back and will see the other sights. Thank you GIFU! :)Guest review byisi paniniPhilippines - 10.0

Gero has so much to share, with food, including Hida beef, yes get familiar with it. It's top level Wagyu beef and is from Hida the region that Gero is situated. The city is easy to get around in the snow (in Winter) and in the rain (in Spring), with places that are easy to walk or ride share to. Gero to most is a journey to get to with taking the trains, but it's well worth the journey, having seen cherry blossoms in the ever greens AND the snow falling like in a "snow globe", encrusting the tress, during the train ride. We are fortunate to have experienced Gero twice and now looking for a third stay, in Autumn for the changing of the leaves!Guest review byRonaldoUnited States - 10.0
1 day experience is perfect.
1 day experience is perfect. The tourist site can be done in a few hours if your arrive before noon. Next is to enjoy a good hotel stay with onsen and their gourmet dinner onsite from late afternoon to night. Follow by breakfast and leave to next destination. There is a storage place next to the bus terminal if you have luggage to store for a few hours and check out tourist venue next to it before heading to the hotel. We chose to ship our large luggage from Tokyo to Kyoto via the Family Mart or Yamato shipping services from Tokyo.Guest review byLianneUnited States - 10.0

Tajimi is a really great city to visit. Everyone we met was so nice. We did a pottery experience as well which I really recommend. The only issue is that it’s a little difficult if you don’t plan on renting a car. Public transportation is somewhat limited.Guest review byAmandaUnited States - 10.0

Takayama is beautiful, geared towards local and foreign tourists. The only catch is that some places will only take catch so you need to keep that in mind. We found beautiful crafts close to the temple, we also visited the local morning markets and caught the bus to Shirakawa-Go which I cannot reccomend enough.Guest review byHelenaMalta - 10.0

We arrived here after our first four nights in Tokyo and welcomed the peacefulness and pace of the town. We walked two legs of the Nakasendo Way using Nakatsugawa as our base: one leg walking from Nakatsugawa to Magome and the other bussing to Magome and walking to Tsumago from there and then returning to Nakatsugawa to our delightful guest house. Everyone we met here was helpful and kind. .Guest review byDianeCanada - 10.0

Gero is a gorgeous town in the valley in Gifu. There is a much slower pace here, incredibly friendly people. and beautiful nature. There's many nooks and crannies where you'll find interesting things, and the Gassho-mura open-air museum village is a must-see area.Guest review byVincentUnited States
