FAQs about hotels in Azores
Portuguese Paradise Islands
The discovery of the Azores Islands is surrounded by many myths, but the official story places it in the year 1431 by Gonçalo Velho Cabral. Since then, they have been settled in different waves of migrations, creating a distinctive identity that mixes local and Portuguese continental traditions.
With their colourful houses, beautiful beaches, green hills and volcanoes, lakes, and rich traditions, the Azores Archipelago is a unique place to explore. Composed of 9 main islands and several smaller islets, their landscape and culture create magnificent settings and opportunities to enjoy.
The volcanic lakes on São Miguel Island offer beautiful beaches, earth ovens, and great panoramic views surrounded by green slopes. Being the biggest island, you will find a wide range of Azores hotels on São Miguel.
The Holy Spirit festivals mark the liveliest season and are celebrated on every island from May to September. Check out the availability of hotels for the Azores Islands on the Booking.com website during those dates.
On Pico Island, you can climb the 2,351 meters of Mount Pico, the highest point in Portugal. The picturesque city of Angra do Heroismo on Terceira Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

- From US$152.63 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very good - What previous guests thought, 427 reviewsWe had a nice and comfortable room with a little basket of fruits for your welcome. The room had a nice balcony with a view to the harbour and Faial. In a minute you can reach the harbour and the city centre. There is a cleaning service everyday (if you need it). The breakfast buffet is really big and has a lot of offerings (they even had soy milk and milk without lactose; lots of bread, ham, cheese, cereals with different seeds, lots of fruits, many cakes, eggs, beans and so on...). The staff is very polite. We are not used to big hotels and normally stay at smaller/simpler places so we missed nothing at all.Guest review byAnna ElisabethAustria

We really enjoyed our stay, warm welcome, always smiling girls on the reception. we liked the food in the bar, they serve light meals. and it was so pleasant to sit there in the evening. listen to live music and eat octopus salad (highly recommend!!). special thanks to the hotel for the small robe for my daughter to use it for thermals.Guest review byKarinaUkraine
- From US$322.86 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 365 reviewsThe room was clean modern and spacious. Oceanview was amazing! They served us breakfast in our room. It was so much food, including eggs! The staff were eager to help us with any request from things to do, where to eat and what the tide schedule was. Having snack items available to order was an added bonus as we chose not to leave the property since it was so beautiful and just ordered off the snack/drink menu and everything was brought to our room with no room service fee!Guest review byMelindaCanada

Only 15-20mins to the Ponta Delgada depending which road you use but all are so scenic. Also there are so many hiking options around hotel, also swimming in the sea but bring non slip shoes for the stones. The hotel itself is beautiful designed. Quiet were it has to be and even bathtub in room! Spa is small but effective....and there is a pillow menu!! Staff very attentive ;)Guest review byEvaSpain

The host replies right away via WA, we could check-in earlier and there was no problem with asking for booking the taxi to the airport. Reception is on the ground floor, available almost whole day. Wi-Fi works perfectly. Air conditioner looked like brand new and was very quiet. 10/10, with no doubts.Guest review byTomaszPoland
- From US$217.49 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,253 reviewsExtremely quiet location - far from all the noise (with the exception of sea waves - which are pleasant though). The hotel is spacious, and the surroundings (greenery) are well maintained. The staff is very friendly. Since it gets dark quite quickly in the winter, we had fun playing billiards and table tennis in the evening.Guest review byMatjazSlovenia

We did the 2 day excursion of Ponta Delgada ( since we chose not to rent a car) ….it was phenomenal. The tour guide Joao was very knowledgeable and brought us to the most amazing spots on the island. Exceptional / stunning views . WOW!!!!! Could have stayed a few extra days , there is so much to experience.Guest review byMariaCanada - 8.0
Hilly nice little town with historical center and marina.
Hilly nice little town with historical center and marina. Not easy to drive through and park, but excellent for walking. Not many souvenir shops, and lots of cheap Chinese fake products but comparing to other towns in Azores this one is quite big. Bars, restaurants and bistros are there but these are not the best, they are sufficient though. The natural reserve on peninsula with citadel and military base is extraordinary. Great view and experience, nice for picnic or hiking!Guest review byJarek__PLPoland - 10.0

Horta is a fabulous town, friendly people, nice restaurants and pedarias and shops in and around the Main Street Our favorite place to eat was a fab resteraunt overlooking the ocean Praia do a Almoxarife. Lovely harbor with interesting paintings from passing sailors. Porto Pim Beach close by. Probably best to get a hire car to see all the lovely spots around the island (quite expensive) although the local buses are pretty good too. Plenty of walking/hiking trails especially the walk around the rim of Caldeira e Capelinhos. Lots of amazing view points and botanical gardensGuest review byJOHNUnited Kingdom - 8.0
I enjoyed Riberia Grande.
I enjoyed Riberia Grande. It is a great place to situate yourself if you are planning to visit different areas of the island. The public swimming pools and ocean access was fantastic. I enjoyed going to the courtyard area in my area nightly to eat and enjoy a glass of wine. Took a little getting used to the serving staff here as they did not seem interested in their customers. Upon searching Google, I found out this may be because they are paid a decent living wage and therefore not reliant on tips. This makes it even more confusing as to why they would not be receptive to their customers.Guest review byRosannaCanada - 10.0
Spectacular park and hot springs.
Spectacular park and hot springs. The foliage in the park is magnificent rivalling some of the most iconic parks in the world. Quiet, close to quiet seaside town with whale watching, fishing and good food.Guest review byMikePortugal - 10.0
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in.
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in. You can book acitivities with agencies near the port. There are a couple of really good restaurants. Pico wine is amazing! During my stay in Pico (may) the weather was extremely changing and it was very hard to plan activities such a hiking Mt. Pico that depends on the weather. The temperature could feel like 30c while it was sunny and felt like 10c when cloudy and rainy. The same goes for the wind. Averall worth the experience tho. :)Guest review byMartinCanada - 10.0
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying,...
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying, with very nice people, and an overall good atmosphere. There is enough to see and to enjoy, from food, ice-creams, and cafes. It also has a lovely small market where you can eat as well, and opposite a garden with a nice sitting area. It has all possible shops, a large grocery, it's surrounded by hills, and much green. There are many very nice old houses, nicely renovated We are not young, so I can't say. There is a very nice and spacious beach with fine black sand The town is a little bit on a hill, but by walking down, you can enjoy a very nice view of the sea. This is also the heart of the town. Another good trip is a walk the monup the hill to ument. It can be walked from both sides, both offering very nice views all around. Moving around without a car is quite difficultGuest review byJIRINASlovakia - 10.0

It is a beautiful and historic building with so much character. It has calm and peaceful seating areas throughout where you can sit in comfort. They have the best breakfast and we relied on the banana for a snack as we were out and about during the day. This location is perfect for exploring the island as it is centrally located. We will definitely be backGuest review bySallyUnited Kingdom - 8.0

São Roque is very spread out, so a car is needed if you stay outside the heart of the village. Most restaurants were closed, so dining out was tricky (end of March). It is worth staying in a self catering place when going off season. The minimarket by the fire-station is well stocked. Safe swimming spot at the Naval Club. Close to hiking trails.Guest review byOdilePortugal - 8.0
Velas was a nice quite town. There is lots to see and do.
Velas was a nice quite town. There is lots to see and do. Great hotels and friendly staff. There is a "pool" downtown at the seawall within the ocean due to rocks that have been placed, so you can swim. They have a stage where artists and singers can perform. Lots of cute shops with great merchansie to purchase, with easy streets to walk through. Lots of cobbled stones, so wear comfortable shoes. Great restaurants down cute little streets and lots of friendly people who want to help you regardless if you can speak portuguese or not.Guest review byPamelaUnited States
