We recently visited Chiang Mai and had a great time. Mid Sept is still off season and occasional rains but its not a spoiler at all. Awesome places to eat and shop. Weekend visit is recommended as lots of markets are only on weekends so can take advantage of that. Amazing Vegetable and fruit markets. Would be great to take a Airbnb and cook a nice meal while there. We visited Thaphae Gate, Jingjai Market, Wat Phra Singh, Wat lok Moli to name a few and they were all good. We recommend Siam Bike rentals for good deals for Bikes. We stayed at Jonah hotel and it was great value for money. Eating places Bodhi Cafe , Khoi Soi Mesai and Coconut shell restaurant to name a few. The night market near Marriott Hotel is a must visit.Guest review byNiharIndia - 8.0

I wasn’t sure about taking the extra trip to Chiang Rai but it was so worth it. It’s a more relaxed vibe than Chiang Mai. It feels very authentically Thailand with beautiful scenery. There’s lots to explore close by and compared to anywhere else I’ve travelled in Thailand I found it cheaper. There really isn't much there to see as a tourist. The city is not pretty or anything special. We were at Sukhothai and decided to travel here to extend our mini vacation. Nan is an interesting town... There are lots of temples and history from when it was a kingdom. I was visiting during the low season, but during my 10-day visit, I could see something every day.
