We liked everything about The Metric. The place is immaculate, minimalist chic, and has super comfy mattress/pillows. The owners really look after the property and make sure everything is perfect. FAQs about hotels in California

The American Dream

From the searing depths of Death Valley to the snow-capped peaks of the Lake Tahoe mountains, California is a wonderful US state that sums up the American Dream. Nowhere is this more evident than Los Angeles, the home of Hollywood and many stars who grace its red carpets.

In the south-west, Anaheim has a great range of Californian hotels near Disneyland where the magic of the movies comes to life. Sun-drenched San Diego, located close to the Mexican border in the state's south-western tip, is a popular spring break destination as is Palm Springs in a valley surrounded by rugged mountains.

In the well-known wine region of the Napa Valley the vineyards produce some fantastic wines, while Monterey is best known for its spicy cheese and the beautiful coastline that becomes the Big Sur coastal drive. Another driving adventure is the fabled Route 66 and parts of it pass through California, ending at Santa Monica pier.

Along the coast is beautiful Santa Barbara, and further north San Francisco is home to a good proportion of Californian hotels with indoor pools on Booking.com. The Golden Gate city is set around an exclusive bay which ends at Silicon Valley in San Jose, while famous Berkeley University is just across the water. The stunning natural beauty of Yosemite National Park is further east, while Sacramento is to the north-east.

Where do I start. Firstly I cannot write this review without giving a huge shout out to Sandra who is one of the lovely staff at Surf and Sand Resort - she made our trip extra special and sent some wine and cheese up to our room and also booked Nobu for us which was incredible as it was impossible to get a booking otherwise. As soon as we walked in I felt like a celebrity. We were greeted with amazing staff on the front desk, they upgraded our room with a small fee which was so worth it. Without even going into the Hotel itself the staff make it the most amazing experience. This Hotel is the only one on Laguna beach which is on the sea front, you can hear the waves crashing - our room was right on the water. The food in the Hotel was impeccable, you seriously need to try the breakfast burrito & French toast - OMG! On our first night we went for dinner and the food and cocktails were insane! I would seriously go back every year to this Hotel if I could. Excited to visit again! It is always fully booked so we were so lucky to have got a room! The best Hotel I have visited for sure! also the pool was incredible !

A lovely hotel about 3hours from LAX for an one night 2 day stopover in LA. A treat for our last night of holidays. And wasn't it a treat. Hired a car, and arrived to Valet parking (extra), a beautiful comfortable room, and the most friendliest Hotel and Restaurant staff I have ever experienced. Sadly the weather wasn't in our favour, so swimming and hopping in spa wasn't on our list, but it didn't stop others as it was heated. The food, views, staff and decore at the Marisol Restaurant was sensational. There is an ocean walk path to enjoy as well.

I decided to stay on the Queen Mary because of the ship's history. It definitely did not disappoint me. As soon as you step on board, you are transported back in time. Beautiful art deco interior, full of places and decks to explore. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. The original and preserved elements of the rooms' furnishings, the old elevators and other hidden vintage gems were very appealing to me as a history lover. The bed was very comfortable. I would definitely stay there again.

We took a trip to Los Angeles and saw 90s band Pulp at the Hollywood bowl. They were absolutely fabulous! It was well worth seeing them. LCD soundsystem were also there, they were rubbish, it was like cheesy Dad-rock, just a shouty noise, avoid. We also went to see the LA Rams at the SoFi stadium. Wow, that place is huge! We got expensive seats and the view was fabulous! Well worth a visit! We tried Elon's Tesla dinner in Downtown LA. The food was good. Perfectly reasonable burger and fries which tasted good. The roof terrace was lovely in the sunshine and the huge outside screen is amazing. It's also well worth a visit. We did quite a few other things and even managed some sightseeing during our work trip. The LA residents are lovely. We would definitely go again.

very walkable and even better on a bike , including getting to Coronado island, which I highly recommend. Balboa park is great / one of the best I have visited in any City and also say a 30 min walk from down town. Only down side is the number of street people ! - everywhere from down town to Balboa park. One other negative are the extra service and /or credit card fees on most all bills - not used to that - why not increase the prices and be transparent ??

The city was clean and nice. We felt safe walking late at night. There were some mental heath homeless people at night. But durning the day we did not see anyone sketchy. Everyone was pleasant and friendly. We has a car and were able to see other areas that were not as well kept as Anaheim. It would have been nice to have more time to see more of the area.

Sacramento is my home town. Been here 45 years. It's nice but has its run down areas. It definitely could use better employees for the businesses around my area.. customer service sucks in most places therefore I refuse to even go to those places... And they're mostly family owned and family ran and trying to apply for work sucks. I get turned down most places I've applied too. Sacramento is not what it used to be and it's sad

I liked the area of the property as its right next to the on and off ramp for the Hwy. Its right next to the Denny's, well as a Walmart super center! Theres also Wendys, and Starbucks across the street! Its far enough from the inner city were there tends to be a lot of riff raff as well low scale crime, as well as drugs. I felt at peace, and you can tell that the management puts a lot towards 2training her staff! Real good hard-working staff as well as very courteous and attentive to the guests needs! I figured that there would be a lot of noise and everything else that's associated with hotels that are more cost effective.

Unfortunately most museums and the botanical gardens were closed when we were there, we arrived Monday and left Thursday, it seems to be a city that mostly works Thursday to Sunday. Fresno is a city of about 156,000, mostly laid out in large squares. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, but a bit difficult to find healthy food. Highways cross the city, but it was pretty easy to get around. The downtown area needs cleaning up, as it is old and many places need attention. We only slept and ate there, as we spent all our time in the national parks. The airport is lovely, though, with large faux sequoias and cedars. Only 16 gates, so it's not a lot of walking.
