Just 250 metres from Zenko-ji Temple, Matsuya Ryokan offers simple Japanese rooms with tatami-mat floors, a green-tea maker and an attached Western bathroom. The hotel features public baths. If I could give 100 stars to this ryokan, I would do it! It was absolutely stunning experience in Nagano, the whole family and staff are extremely friendly, kind and polite. They receive lots of international travelers and they understand tourists needs. You MUST book dinners and breakfasts with them! It was amazing experience! On a practical note: rooms were authentic, hot water, heater were reliable. Location is superb, close to the temple and delicious snacks. This place is ideal for alternative travelers interested in local tradition and with the appreciation for culture and history: I wish the owners only the best customers!

The building, rooms, and onsen are incredible and the hospitality can't be beat. We were caught in a rainstorm before our scheduled pickup and the owners so kindly dried our sopping wet clothes and shoes. After that, we warmed up in the onsen which left our skin feeling so smooth and headed to a delicious and expansive dinner. We finished the night falling asleep to the roaring sound of the waterfall due to the heavy rains. We'll definitely be back.

Located in the heart of Nozawa Onsen, Tanuki offers guests a traditional accommodation with Japanese-style rooms that feature tatami (woven-straw) flooring. Outstanding location, apartment and wonderful staff. The coffee and food in the downstairs cafe is very very good. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful and peaceful traditional Japanese style ryokan. The ryokan is surrounded by beautiful mountains and nature giving such a wonderful relaxing feeling and view. The room was so comfortable and spacious, we were so pleased. We loved how the staff took care of us, even prepared special gifts for our honeymoon : fresh local grapes and delicious Nagano apples. We particularly loved to dress in yukata, enjoyed the wonderful food and relaxed in the several thermal baths, even some private onsens ! The staff organized a complimentary shuttle to take us from and to the train station so it was an excellent stay and so convenient you reach.

Berg Marukaneya is located in Nozawa Onsen, 2 km from Lake Hokuryuko. The ryokan is a 3-minute walk from the nearest ski field and has a ski pass sales point. Guests can enjoy a meal at the... Amazing time staying at this lovely hotel. They couldn’t have been more accommodating with changes or kinder when we visited.
