Beautiful and cozy ryokan at Hirayu Onsen, about a 45 min drive from Takayama. The kaiseki dinner was AMAZING. They really loaded us up with good quality, buttery hida Beef grilled over a charcoal irori. We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the dinner - a lovingly prepared multi course meal with grilled veggies and beef, soba noodles, tempura, sashimi, dessert. It’s a very local place for many Japanese tourists - most of the signs, menus were all in Japanese so we had some trouble with translation. Staff were lovely and helpful!

Fantastic staff that helped us cross the mountains the day when we were leaving, since there were unsafe driving conditions.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. Very charming and aesthetic little hotel restaurant located in the woods just out of town. With nice little onsen - showers. Fantastic cuisine and wine (let the chef-owner pic for you). And extremely friendly and accommodating owner couple happy to pick you up / drop you off in town.

Offering traditional Japanese-style accommodation with spacious public baths, Yatsusankan Over 6 years old is a 6-minute walk from JR Hidafurukawa Train Station. Everything was perfect. Staff very friendly. Lovely room and food was great also.

It gave free entrance ticket to the big public onsen which is a great extra benefit.

Really nice and cosy accommodation. The hosts were very friendly and went above and beyond to help us when we needed it. Highly recommend.
