A fantastic warm welcome in Loch Lein country house. I arrived early and was facilitated with an early check-in and delicious coffee and pastries. The breakfast was excellent on both mornings. Would highly recommend staying there for the stunning lake views, but primarily for the care they take of all their guests.

The Lily of the Lake
Overlooking the tranquil waters of Lough Leane, colourful Killarney is a top Irish tourist destination. The UNESCO-listed Killarney National Park surrounds Muckross House, a stately home sitting in large grounds with a traditional farm.
A tree-lined lane leads to Muckross Abbey, a former Franciscan monastery whose cloisters enclose a tall yew tree. Celtic crosses line the cemetery and beyond is the lake, at the centre of which is a tree-lined outcrop, home of the historic Ross Castle. This 15th-century stone fortress once housed the O’Donoghue clan, one of whom reportedly lives at the bottom of the lough.
More legends envelop the Ring of Kerry – a scenic drive starting from Killarney and supposedly the last place to spot a leprechaun. Gushing Torc waterfall is just one of its fantastic sights.
In Killarney itself, horse-drawn carts roam narrow streets whose Irish pubs offer great nightlife. Impressive St Mary’s Cathedral has a towering spire and somewhat dark interior. The local gaelic football team play at Fitzgerald Stadium, and more sports can be enjoyed at Killarney riding stables and the nearby golf and fishing club. There is also a popular racecourse.
Accommodation in Killarney on Booking.com includes 5-star lakeside hotels, B&Bs near the train station and town centre guest houses. All with that trademark Irish hospitality.
We've come to Ireland six times in the past 24 years but...
We've come to Ireland six times in the past 24 years but this was our first visit to Killarney. Killarney is very low on our list of places we have been. It's too crowded and touristy for our taste and, quite frankly, the Americans there acted like jerks. (As an American, I can say that.) We stayed for two nights, but could have done with one. I wanted to go to see the Gap of Dunloe, but the major jaunting car company, Killarney Jaunting Cars, did not offer a tour unless you took their Gap of Dunloe adventure package at 115 euro a pop. It was also 115 euro to rent a jaunting car from a private driver which was too expensive. We couldn't even see Torc Waterfall because we couldn't find a place to park our car. It was ridiculous. What we did: a visit to Ross Castle and Muckross Abbey, plus a jaunting car/boat excursion in the Killarney National Forest could have been done in a day. We will not be returning to Killarney again.

So magical, sparkling clean, charming fairytale steets with shopping and pubs. Great food. Too much to see for our 1.5 day stay. Beats Disneyland! As reported from a late 1950s Orange County California native! Must find a way to come back to stay in Killarney and have the time to explore Ring of Kerry in full, Kenmare, spend time doing outdoor activities and enjoy the local horseback riding, boat rides, and so much more. What Ireland dreams are made from!!

Hotel beautiful perfect.
Hotel beautiful perfect. My wife who always traveled with me died earlier this year of MND Disease and I was visiting all the places we you to stay on our trips. As I have already said the parking ticket I got for parking in what I was led to believe was a disabled zone has put a very bad taste in my mouth. I would have to think seriously about visiting Killarney again.

We were very disappointed that the Killarney National Park visitor center and Ross Castle weren’t open and especially that there was no acknowledgement of that on their website. That was our main reason to visit Killarney. Understandable about due to weather, but the visitor center was due to renovations.

Place is nice and quiet.
Place is nice and quiet.
Holiday feeling as soon as we arrived.
Host was excellent.
Rooms- spotless.
Kitchen- all you need for self catering is there.
Town is nearby. Torc Waterfall and Mucross House are nearby.
Highly recommend the place 👌👌
This was our second stay at the Arbutus. The hotel is well located in the town centre, near the railway station. The public rooms are beautiful, traditional interiors in Georgian style, with elements of Celtic ornamentation. There are numerous examples of 'Killarney furniture' in the hotel, a distinctive form made of locally-growing arbutus wood with marquetry inlay. The hotel bar has the character of a tradtional Irish pub with some excellent decor, including an art deco fireplace. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Staff is amazing and I think that is what really makes the difference between a 5 star and a 4 star hotel. We stayed 1 night just after the reopening in June and everything seemed under control, we never felt rushed, and although the hotel was fully booked, we never felt like there was too many people there. We cannot say the same for other 4 star hotels in the area that we found quite chaotic in comparison...! Beautiful spa (probably one of the best in Ireland), very talented chefs in the restaurant. We will come back for sure!
The country home was grand, I have never stayed in a B&B with such finely appointed furnishings and cleanliness. The view from our room was spectacular with meticulous landscaping and gardens. The restaurant attached to the main building was like dining in a 5 star restaurant. I was traveling with my best friend for the past 70 years and the golden girls were celebrating our 75th Birthday. What a fabulous stay and the highlight of our trip to Ireland.
Should be a five star hotel! The staff are incredibly kind and helpful and will definitely take care of you, genuinely lovely people! Rooms are always immaculate, lovely facilities and the beds are extremely comfortable. Amazing location, being right on top of the town centre. If you’re planning on staying in a hotel in Killarney, make sure it’s this one!
Mr. Huggard was so willing to help, as was the rest of the staff. They were so incredibly friendly and made us feel very welcome ensuring we had the best stay possible (even though it was apparent we were not from the area). We traveled all over Ireland for a week and The Lake Hotel was our favorite place to stay.
Really nice little hotel. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Very comfortable beds and tasty breakfast. Very convenient location, close to the town centre but just far enough from all the noise of nightlife.
Will definitely stay there again and will also recommend it to my friends and family.
The house was fabulous. It had everything you could possibly need from dishwasher tablets to an umbrella. It's in walking distance from both the national park and the town centre. The hotel next door was also very handy for a quick coffee or meal. We would highly recommend this property.
The room was excellent (we upgraded to the Executive Suite). The locationj of the hotel was in the center of the city and we were able to sample a variety of pubs and live music. The breakfast was the best we have had in our 4 days traveling around Ireland.
Ideal
car park. Quiet position yards from town centre. So convenient compared to other similar hotels on roads into town.
Large comfortable room. Good bathroom facilities. Good broadband. Very good breakfast. Very good value all round. .
Location of hotel is excellent, short 5min stroll to town centre and also on the right side of town to drive to national park for visiting Muckross House and Torc waterfall. Staff were also very friendly and couldn't do enough for you.
Extremely well stocked with cleaning and toiletry supplies. Spotlessly clean and attention to detail is supply of tinfoil etc for cooking.
Great location, handy to shops and town centre 10-15 mins walk. Good value for 3-4 sharing.
Best Hotel I’ve stayed in during my 2 week vacation in Ireland! The staff is top notch, friendly and welcoming. The beds are extremely comfortable and the food is great. Location is superb. Will stay here again and again!
Beautiful hotel in a very central location. Walking distance to town centre. Attended a wedding here. Beautiful food and excellent cocktails. Good irish breakfast. Luxurious feel to the rooms, very comfortable bed.
The staff at the Birches is amazing! They were so welcoming and helpful and went out of their way to make our staff enjoyable. This was our favorite hotel on our trip to Ireland. Thank you so much!
We were central of the town centre, as soon as you walked outside the hotel there was plenty of places to dine, plenty of shops and pubs around, less than a minutes walk from national park
Breakfasts were the best in all of Ireland. The staff are also the best! Norita is the best chef in town and so welcoming! She made our visit very special!
