Hotel Green Plaza Hakone, hotel in Hakone

A 3-minute walk from Ubako Station on the Hakone Ropeway and 280 metres from Ubako bus stop, Green Plaza Hakone offers open-air hot-spring baths with Mount Fuji views.

We chose the hotel for it's view on Mt. Fuji. Apart from this, the hotel has a nice Spa. We took a traditional room which is quite a nice experience. The hotel lays next to the ropeway and a busstop which provides good connectivity. The breakfast and dinner buffet are ok.

Hakone Retreat Före, hotel in Hakone

Situated in the mountain ranges of Hakone in the Sengokuhara Hot Springs region, Hakone Reatreat Före is a 50-minute bus ride from Odawara Station.

The best accomodation we've been to during our honeymoon in Japan. The hotel staff took great care of us and tended to our every need. The hotel is situated on a hill in a forest, however still nearby a bus stop - which was very convenient. The food was excellent! Diner and breakfast buffets served both japanese and international cuisines. We could choose from variety of great alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Specialty coffee and tea was available whenever we wished for it. The onsen was beautiful as well! Overall, there is nothing we would have changed during our stay. Highly recommend.

Amazing stay!!! The location is amazing, right on Lake Ashi - a short walk to the iconic tori gate and Hakone shrine as well as a beautiful view of Mount Fuji! It's also right next to a bus station and the sightseeing ship. I liked the deluxe room as we got our own bathroom, wifi and it was a larger room. It was super comfy and clean. Also right next to a Lawson and plenty of lunch and dinner options around.

Absolutely incredible staff from the moment of arrival to the moment of departure. In particular, Yuuta was so helpful, attentive, and downright elegant. An EXCEPTIONAL breakfast and dinner were included with our room, prepared as Japanese interpretation of multi-course French cuisine. The view from the dining area was stunning. Absolutely wonderful. I believe all rooms include a private outdoor onsen (hot spring bath) where you can soak for hours while enjoying nature.

We visited 5 different places in Japan and Hakone was my favorite. At least 50% of that success belongs to the place we stayed. Everything was beautiful and well organised. The highlights of Hakone for me were the old Tokaido Road, the shrine at Motohakone, the Edo era checking station and the Onshi Hakone Park. There are so many other attractions in Hakone which I didn’t have the chance to see. The 3 day Hakone pass is a must.

It’s a beautiful spot to visit. I recommend 2-3 days to really experience and explore. I got the Hakone free pass and made my way around the loop over 2 days and the scenery was breathtaking, an extra day would have allowed deeper relaxation and extra exploring. Definitely explore the shrines around the lake and try and get to an Onsen while you are there. I did find it tricky to find tattoo cover patches, so possibly worth looking into before travelling to Hakone if you need to cover up.

    Beautiful nature and atmosphere.

Beautiful nature and atmosphere. The trip to Lake Ashimoto was lovely and the scenery impressive. The highlight of our stay in Hakone was dipping in the local onsens, we loved the experience and the feeling of relaxation after a bath. We ate at different local restaurants, mostly found via map apps, which made great food at reasonable prices. We used the Hakone Pass to get around using trains, cable cars and the ropeway, all very convenient and easy to use. We could have used a couple extra days to visit some of the attractions in the area, that we did not have enough time to enjoy.

The onsen is very nice, with indoor and outdoor pools and a small sauna, and free ice-cream! The room was big and we got an upgrade with very nice views. Very clean, with comfortable beds. Service was nice, they even drove us to the closest convenience store to buy something for dinner. The gardens in the hotel are beautiful. It was foggy, but I'm sure they have great views when not. We had a great experience. Breakfast was delightful. Wifi worked very well but only in the room. It is located very close to the Tori door by the lake.

The room (family room with tatami area) is generously spacious, with an amazing onsen facility next door. I love that guests can change into traditional outfits and walk around the hotel wearing them. The staffs are helpful and kind. I am grateful to one of the reviewers here who mentioned that the hotel is accessible from Hotel Okada via an elevator. This saved us from having to walk up the steep hill every time we wanted to go to and from the hotel. The shuttle to Hakone Yumoto station was also a great addition.

It was an amazing stay at Yuyado Zen, two nights were perfect as we get to spend time exploring Hakone and also fully enjoy the onsen stay. It is near to Ubako Station where you can ride the ropeway to attractions like Owakudani and Lake Ashi. Hotel staffs were very helpful with directions and offer free pickup/drop off to bus station. The food and hospitality were just amazing, probably the best meals we had in Japan! The room was very well maintained, clean and spacious as well. Highly recommend!

Pretty hotel, with a nice view of lake Ashi (when the skies are clear). Very nice public onsen with good amenities- like skin care, hair care and dyson hair dryer, and a foot onsen outsiders with the view of the lake. Food was nice as well, large buffet with western and Japanese food. Also a yukata stand near the elevator with a range of sizes and prints that you can choose from. Free shuttle to and from Odawara station which was very helpful considering it's not so easy to get to the hotel.

We had a room overlooking the lake and on the 2nd day we could see Mt Fuji right in front of us- amazing! We arrived at Hakone train station and then started the loop. Unfortunately, due to strong winds gondola and boats were suspended, but we were able to get to the hotel by bus. It must be really nice to arrive by gondola and later boat Boats start right next to the hotel, so we were able to take the first boat the bext day at 9:30 am. I loved the dinner and breakfast menus. Each time it was different, and I loved each set. It was a bit hard to get to, but at the same time that's also made it great as you can easily relax, away from touristy spots. The bus stop is almost in front of the hotel, so it's not bad, but it will take about an hour to get from Odawara Station to the hotel by bus. It's close to Lake Ashi (one bus ride away), so if you need to go sightseeing (Hakone Cruise), it's not to far.

Great value for money considering that you have access to the onsen at the main building, which is excellent. The public open air bath has a lovely view and on both occasions that I used it, I was the only person hence it felt like a private bath. The room is small but it works well for a solo traveller. Hotel is very close to the Yumoto station, just less than 5 minutes away. The staff are all very helpful and fluent in English.
